Task description and requirements
Freelance FPGA Engineer – Space Projects (Esslingen) - Remote
looking for a freelance expert in Esslingen who can apply advanced FPGA design and verification skills to our cutting-edge space environment projects.
Your Mission:
Design and verify VHDL code for FPGAs, ensuring all necessary functions are met.
Develop and validate digital interface circuitry (CAN, RS422 UART, I2C, SPI, Spacewire, etc.).
Collaborate with teams on designing digital circuit boards with FPGAs and microcontrollers for space applications.
Write and implement initial test software to validate interfaces and hardware functions.
Ensure reliability, including failure and radiation tolerance of the design.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage in FPGA design and verification using VHDL.
Work closely with Systems Engineers to define FPGA functionality and capabilities.
Manage the full test cycle, from prototype power-up to serial testing of flight hardware.
Develop and adapt Python test scripts for automation.
What You Bring:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in FPGA/SoC design and verification.
Proficiency with Microchip Libero and Xilinx Vivado.
Solid knowledge of VHDL/Verilog.
Hands-on experience with laboratory work, including soldering and debugging prototypes.
Proficiency in Python and basic C programming.
Familiarity with radiation effects in electronic circuits is a plus.
Experience with digital circuit design tools like KiCAD or Altium Designer is a bonus.
Understanding of ECSS/NASA-HBK/MIL-STD standards and DO-254 is advantageous.
